Made it to the Mediterranean! Carnon-Plage, nr Montpellier

by Tim, October 26th 2017

'They' say there's a more relaxed way of doing things in the south of France, probably a lot to do with the climate, I'd say. Following a very pleasant visit to Perigueux, our journey around the south took us west-east; beautiful Bordeaux - a 'mini-Paris' and marginally less-pricey to live....
then Montauban, the rose-stoned buildings of Toulouse, a return to the walled city of Carcasson and onto our favourite so far - Montpellier - a city which for us has everything.

Of course our 'everything' is likely to be different to us than it is for you; but, like Toulouse, Montpellier is a university city with a substantial beautiful 'old city' element and gorgeous, characterful environments, great arts and culture - and more properties within our budget range than Bordeaux - although we're told the city does currently have the highest property taxes in France! Its location is of course also a win for us - right near the Mediterranean, not being too far from the mountains of the Pyrenees and forests, plus benefitting of a balmy, warm climate (as you can see from our 'Top Gun' beach re-enactment scene, above.)

But hey, I'm going to write a more detailed piece on Montpellier and its suburbs as it may be of use for those of you in search of a more relaxed but pretty invigorating urban life!
