What led us to this

What led us to this?

A crushing sense of disappointment? Tick.

A burning desire to escape the idiocy of mob rule? Tick

The need to turn a negative into a positive as our best possible response? Yup.

The will to preserve our human rights under EU law? Absolutely.

To us, Brexit is completely ridiculous. It is based on nothing more than lies, misinformation, xenophobia and ignorance. The arguments for it, the promised unicorns, hokey ideas about a return to ‘British’ values, whatever the hell they are (to re-establish…what exactly? A globe-spanning empire?) are absurd.
We do think however, that it's pretty naive for us to simply rail against Brexit; whilst we passionately believe that EU membership is the only sensible option right now - Brexit's underlying causes must be examined in order to stop a hugely-damaging right wing agenda taking hold ever again. And the EU must move closer to its original egalitarian vision in act as much as word.

But regarding the current predicament - the disgraceful treatment of UK-based EU nationals and Brits abroad – the disregard for their actual human rights – is something we find abhorrent, along with apathy of those privileged Brits just wanting it all to go away so they can focus on ‘Bake Off’.

That our lip service-paying government could endorse this position for political capital was unbelievable to us, but – seeing the dishonesty/ineptitude/arrogance on show presently, we’ve moved past that into a complete rejection of the values the government (and its appalling Brexit backers) represent.

And perhaps like you, we need to act out of self-preservation while witnessing the sheer idiocy of committing the worst act of national self-harm in economic and geo-political terms that we can remember.

That all said - we’re not ones to duck and run from a fight. Brexit can be fought from anywhere – and that’s what we will continue to do.
